Kanye life of pablo poster11/20/2022 ![]() That’s nothing short of what Kanye West is looking for with “The Life of Pablo”: The peace of mind to continue walking the dim path, the light of his own rhymed word guiding his step. “Low Lights,” for example, is filled to the brim with funk over a testimony vesting faith in God’s deliverance of peace. But it’s also beautifully displayed and easy to appreciate. “The Life of Pablo” is so God-filled that it’s cringe worth in some places. His humor is back, too, although it doesn’t always play out. ![]() “The Life of Pablo” is a return to his hip-hop roots, love of reggae samples and stories about women. Kanye has never been a lyrical genius, but he’s able to write rhymes that meander rhythmically through his production. Chris Brown pops up on “Waves,” Ty Dolla $ign guest on “Real Friends,” and Rihanna graces “Famous.” The production credits are an all-star lineup consisting of Swizz Beats, Metro Boomin and of course Yeezus himself. He brings along several other artistic personalities for effect who act as disciples of his message. Franklin is king of the contemporary gospel, so his inclusion in the secular spectrum was a risk worth taking. We know Kanye West is a Christian, having thrown thousands of his own dollars into the servicing of “Jesus Walks.” But “The Life of Pablo” is, as he described it, “a gospel album with a lot of cursing.” The project opens with “Ultra Light Beams,” a full-on gospel song complete with a dramatic gospel choir and prayer from Kirk Franklin. Related: Kanye West might have another 80 songs on the way While Yeezy’s story is quite different from this Biblical one, he presents his journey to find himself on “The Life of Pablo” with pointed vulnerability and spirituality. But with a little help from his friends, Paul was able to find himself on a secure path and the rest is, well, history. The only problem is Paul got himself into a few pickles before finally seeing the light of his mission.
